Recruiters Leveraging Internet, .jobs Domain

Company recruiters are leveraging new online search techniques, such as the .jobs domain, to find and lure job candidates, according to a recent study by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

The survey queried HR professionals on the differences between organizations that utilize a ".jobs" domain compared to companies without such domains. SHRM Strikes .jobs Partnership

In the search for new ancillary revenue streams, b-to-b media companies have to be willing to think outside the box. That was the case for the Society for Human Resource Management.

Gary Rubin, SHRM's chief publishing and e-media officer, said the society was approached a few years ago by a company that was in the process of trying to register a new sponsored top-level domain (sTLD) name with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the international organization responsible for the management and oversight of the Internet's domain name system. In April of 2006 The Merck Group, a global employer of 29,000 people spread over 166 companies in 54 countries, launched their international career portal at www.merck.jobs.
