ICANN allows .jobs and .travel based domain names

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a non-profit organization set up in 1998 at the initiative of the US government has finally given its approval to the .jobs and .travel based domain names. While, they are continuing their discussions on some other under consideration extensions, which includes the highly anticipated .asia base representing the biggest continent on this planet.

These new top-level domains were approved during the 22nd international conference in Mar del Plata, Argentina. The .jobs base would be administered by the original recommending authority the US based Employ Media LLC along with the Society for Human Resource Management. This domain is as the name suggests applicable for agencies involved in job recruiting and human resources.

The other domain extension approved in the meeting .travel was a highly demanded one as well. It would be managed by New York-based Tralliance Corp. The designation of Tralliance Corporation to administer the registry for .travel concludes a four-year process.

Tralliance Corporation President and Chief Executive Ronald N. Andruff said in a press release: “We anticipate enormous interest and participation by both the global travel and tourism industry and consumers in .travel. This is evidenced by consumer spending on travel, currently at over 28% of all online purchases, which continues to spiral upward. The .travel domain will strengthen consumer confidence in their travel purchases and provide a new, distinct, distribution channel for travel suppliers and sellers who cater to the traveling consumer.”

We might soon see more domain names being approved by ICANN like the .mobi, .post, .asia, .mail, .tel, and .xxx.
